Conservation:
Here at Gallery Seventeen we believe that conservation is a very important aspect of framing. Where possible we always suggest museum quality glass and mounts to protect your beloved art work. These options help protect your artwork for years to come.
We frame every job using acid-free conservation quality tapes and backing board. This is very important as it is the acid that seeps from these materials which cause discolouring and damage to a piece of art work.
Damage to a piece of artwork can also occur if it is framed so that the image is sat touching the glass. Over time a painting or photograph may stick to the glass if in direct contact. So we would always suggest you put a mount around your artwork (where possible museum quality) as this will stop it touching the glass.
Alternately, we can keep your artwork away from the glass using a fillet. A fillet sits in the inside edge of the frame, between the glass and the artwork, and stops the artwork ever touching the glass. Fillets come in a range of width and colours including: black, white and wood.
