About Graphic Designer Redge Solley: 03/10/25 - 14/10/25


Redge Solley studied graphic design and advertising at Canterbury College of Art & Design in the 1960s. His formative years in advertising were with J. Walter Thompson Company in London, where he was employed as an art director for seven years.
He went to Hong Kong in 1969 and worked for Leo Burnett Limited as an art director and a year later was offered a job working for Government Information Services as a Senior Information Officer (Art Director) in the creative department, working on major public information campaigns. He was promoted to Principal Information Officer (Creative Director) and became deputy of the creative department. During his time with GIS, he received several awards for his creative work such as a 4A’s Bronze Award Best Public Service Advertisement on TV Home Safety in 1990. Redge was interviewed by The Asian Wall Street Journal in March 1996, for recognition of his contribution to the community. He worked for GIS for twenty years until the handover of sovereignty in 1997, then worked as a designer/photographer.
In March 2019, he published his book of photographs taken in Hong Kong in 1969. His photography is now on permanent exhibition in the Hong Kong Museum of History. Redge recently returned to the UK as a resident, working as a freelance graphic designer and digital painter.
