Gallery Seventeen at Sue Clark Ceramics prides itself in offering an eclectic range of art including fabulously embroidered wall hangings. Sue found these beautiful items whilst traveling in Western Rajasthan. The panels are made from sections of ornate ceremonial and festival costumes worn in the past by Maharajah royal families and nomadic tribes of Western and Southern Rajasthan. Much of the embroidery dates back to the 1930's and is of exquisite complexity and quality. Modern sections of embroidery come from government backed village initiatives encouraging and maintaining the development of local traditional artisans skills.
