We have over 20 years of experience to call on and we will be pleased to talk with you on any aspect of our art or framing services.

Upstairs at Gallery Seventeen is a teaching studio where our art classes take place. We hold both daytime and evening classes in ceramics, drawing, and watercolour; the classes are perfect for both beginners and more experienced artists.

Gallery Seventeen is conveniently located around the corner from Beckenham Junction train station and tram stop, therefore is easily accessible from Victoria, Croydon and Bromley. We are also just across the road from a bus stop with regular buses to and from Bromley, Lewisham, Penge, Crystal Palace and Elmers End.

Materials as recommended by the Tutor: ( * means essential)

A3 Drawing board*

Brushes:*

Large W&N No 19 or 20 brush for washes
Medium W&N No.6 or 8 brush

Small W&N No.1 or No.2 brush

Rigger W&N No.3

Paper:*

Pad of 300 gsm A4 (to start with), cold pressed (NOT) watercolour paper (NOT = not hot pressed)

Colours:

Tubes are preferable for mixing colours & for larger work. the following primary colours will give you most of what you need:

CeruleanBlue
French Ultramarine

Light Red

Cadmium Yellow

Lemon Yellow

Alizarin Red

Light Scarlet Red

in addition for darks & lights:

Indigo

Payne’s Grey

Prussian Blue

Raw sienna

Burnt Umber

Yellow Ochre

‘Cotman’ colours are one of the cheapest ranges

If you already have your own materials just bring them along and use them.

Also needed:

Kitchen roll*, pencil & rubber* pallette or old kichen plate for mixing*,

a white candle or white oil pastel, a small pan of watercolours, roll of masking tape & some masking fluid, a small sea sponge, cotton buds, an apron.

Monday Morning

Experimenting in Watercolour

Course content

This is a course for students who have some experience of watercolour and who would like to try new techniques and explore how these can be used create new and exciting textures and images. heather will guide you through a new technique each week.

These classes are booked in six week blocks and run continuously.

Day/Time: Monday Morning 10.30am – 12.30pm

Monday Afternoon

Watercolour technique

Course Content:

Heather teaches from absolute beginner level: starting with basic brush techniques, how to mix colour, and how you can develop these techniques to produce your own watercolour paintings. From thereHeather will aid your growth as an artist and help you to build up a more advanced skill set.

Day/Time: Monday Afternoon 2.00 – 4.00pm

Level: Mixed ability

Cost: £75
